Spring Cleaning Should Apply to Your HVAC Unit Too!

Spring will be here before you know it, and you know what that means… time for spring cleaning! While you’re sweeping, dusting, and decluttering your home, you should also take the time to give your HVAC unit a proper cleaning too. You’ll want to make sure everything is in tip-top shape before you switch to using AC throughout the hot summer months—and avoid any potential problems that could arise. Here are some tips for giving your HVAC unit a proper cleanout.
Testing, Testing!
To avoid running into an issue with your HVAC unit the first 80-degree day in spring, you should test your AC beforehand and make sure it’s running properly when you’ll really need it most. If you notice an issue, don’t hesitate to contact us!
Change Your Furnace Filter
Furnace filters trap a ton of dirt, allergens, and hair to help the air quality in your home. If it gets too dirty, however, it becomes ineffective and can lead to allergies or other agitations in the air. Make sure to change the filter out every season for the best results.
Seal Your Windows
You’ll want to make sure your windows are properly sealed at all times of the year to ensure that you’re not wasting cool air or letting outdoor humid air in.
Change Your Thermostat Batteries
If your thermostat has dead batteries, it can generate problems with your HVAC system or even completely shut off. Make sure your thermostat has fresh batteries before you turn on your AC to avoid any issues.
Clean the Area Around Your Unit
If you have an outdoor HVAC unit, make sure it’s clear of leaves, dirt, and other debris that can interfere with your unit’s airflow and performance. If grass, etc. has collected on the actual unit, use a hose to spray it down.
