It can be easy to forget about your HVAC system this time of year but the Tower team is here to help. Read our tips below before everyone heads to your house to celebrate and add our number to your contacts just in case you need anything over the holidays: 919-646-2940.
1. Keep Your Vents Clear
Make sure no decorations, presents, trees, etc. are blocking the air vents. If your air vents are blocked, they cannot do their job and your HVAC system will have to work harder, costing you more money.
2. Check Carbon Monoxide Detectors
An important reminder for our gas heating customers: check your carbon monoxide (CO) detector! We recommend checking your CO detectors every month to make sure they are functioning properly. Check out our tips on checking your CO detector, when it needs to be replaced, and more.
3. Change Your Air Filters
Air filters remove the dust and debris from your home that would otherwise clog the air conditioning and heating system and potentially affect your respiratory health. We recommend changing your air filters every three months—or more, if you have hairy pets (even a hamster!). Find an affordable, effective filter at your local Lowe’s or Home Depot, and follow these simple steps to keep breathing easy!
4. Be Mindful of Flammable Objects
Did you know that nearly half of home fires occur during the months of December, January, and February? Keep your home and family safe after the holidays with these post-holiday year-end tips.
During the holidays, be sure to keep any flammable objects away from any heating sources including space heaters, radiators, and more.
5. Don’t Cover Your Thermostat
When you are decorating, make sure you do not put anything over the thermosat. When your thermostat is covered, it cannot accurately read the temperature in your home which means your furnance cannot accurately do its job either.
