It seems we’re finally past NC’s second winter (you know, those couple of weeks in the spring when it randomly gets near-freezing outside again), and summer is finally right around the corner! While you’re ditching your jackets and jeans for shorts and T-shirts, you may want to do some tuning up around the house as well. Here, we give you a list of things you should do before it starts getting too hot outside. And of course, we’d be happy to check in on your home as well! You know how to reach us…
Check Your AC Unit
There’s no better time to get your unit serviced than when the seasons change! As part of our Peace of Mind Membership Plan, we perform seasonal cleaning and safety checks, with priority scheduling, for our members. Cleaning and servicing your AC unit every so often ensures that it’ll run longer and smoother while also increasing your home’s energy efficiency. You never want to wait until it’s too late!
Change Your Filters
After NC’s grueling pollen season, now’s the best time to replace your HVAC system’s air filters. You never know what kind of dust has accumulated in there, and no one wants to prolong pollen season any longer than necessary!
Prep for Storms
Summer storms are no joke. Have you considered investing in a water leak and freeze detector, which sends a notification to your phone when there’s a water leak or excess humidity in your home? It could really save you from a lot of damage!
Clean Your Refrigerator Coils
Just like in your air filters, dust and other particles tend to collect in your fridge’s cooling coils. Best to get in there with a vacuum or dust rag while you’re finishing your spring cleaning!
Flush Your Water Heater
Many people are unaware that you should flush your water heater once a year. This helps remove built-up sediment and increases efficiency.
Upgrade Your Thermostat
Since NC summers are hot, you’re going to want to make sure that your thermostat holds up and keeps your home nice and cool. We recommend getting a smart thermostat, as it has the ability to learn a household’s pattern and adjust heating and cooling according to when you are home or away. How smart, indeed!
