As it starts to get warmer outside and your AC unit may already be on and putting in the hours to keep your house cool, there are a lot of potential problems that can arise. And while you may think it sounds like a good idea to try and fix your AC yourself (“how hard could it be?!”), trust us, it’s a lot harder than you might think. Here, we break down the expectations and realities of repairing your AC unit by yourself, and when and who you should call to help you out (hint: it’s us!).
Expectations
You may have a small issue in your AC unit that only requires you to check your thermostat, examine your ducts, or give the unit a good cleaning. If you’re experienced with electrical troubleshooting, you might even be able to do that yourself. Of course, you could always cause a bigger issue. And we know what you’re thinking: “I’ll be able to save so much money if I just do it myself!”
Reality
In reality, AC repair is no small task. Your unit may need a thorough cleaning of coils, drains, and elements that are hard to reach or difficult to clean. There are also connections, motor operations, and thermostat functionality that come with AC units and if those are faulty it’ll take a lot more than just a reset to get your unit up and running again.
Professional AC Repair
So sure, there are some things you can fix yourself (if you know what you’re doing), but it’s best to leave the bigger issues to the pros. And on that note, you shouldn’t wait until your unit is faulty to hire a professional. Which is why we offer Peace of Mind Membership Plans that come with cleaning and safety checks. 😉
Once you realize that it’s not as easy as it looks to fix your AC unit all by yourself, give us a call at 919-823-6624. We’ll be waiting to hear from you!
