How to Prep Your Home for the Winter

Winter is coming… Here are our tips for getting your home (both indoors and outdoors) ready for the colder weather.
Indoors
Clean and maintain your heating system. It’s important to have a clean heating system in preparation for the colder weather. Our maintenance plan helps to keep your HVAC system running smoothly all year long!
Purchase a smart thermostat. We highly recommend a smart thermostat for all our clients! It helps you create temperature settings based on your daily schedule, weather conditions, home zones, heating and cooling needs, and more. Plus, smart thermostats can actually learn your household’s pattern and adjust heating and cooling according to when you are home or away.
Keep your vents open in every room. While it may seem like it would save you money to close the vents in rooms you don’t use very often, closing your vents actually makes your system work harder—thus costing you more money.
Replace your air filters. You should regularly change your air filters to keep your home (and your HVAC system!) safe and healthy.
Outdoors
Remove your water hose. This one is super important! Make sure that you removed your garden hose from your outside spigot, as leaving it attached could cause it to freeze.
Clean your gutters. Prevent expensive water damage by cleaning your gutters.
Check your trees. Weak branches could damage your home if they break off during a snowstorm, so make sure to cut back any that may seem like a potential danger!
